yogyakarta (ANTARA) - HALO-MATAHARI - Hello sun is a common phenomenon, and not a sign of natural disasters, researchers said on Natural Disaster Study Center Gadjah Mada University Sudibyakto.

"The phenomenon of the rainbow around the sun that have nothing to do with natural disasters like earthquakes," he said in Yogyakarta on Tuesday.

According to him, Halo is seen circling the sun is the result of bending of sunlight by particles of water vapor in the atmosphere. Halo formed by dispersion beads on ice or water clouds sirrus by ultraviolet light.
"In the rainy season, there are particles of water vapor that rises to very high in the atmosphere. Particles of water has the ability to bend or refract light," he said.

He said the connect occur at noon, when the position of the sun are perpendicular to the earth, the light is deflected also smaller.
"That's why the look in the eyes of the public who happened to witness it is a dark circle around the sun," he said.

According to him, Hello sun is actually equal to the formation of a rainbow in the morning or afternoon after the rain. Rainbow arch is often seen at the bottom of the horizon due to water vapor particles that deflect sunlight gathered in the lower atmosphere.
"On the other hand, in the morning or late afternoon sun was still at a low angle. In the tilted position of water particles refract light ability is greater, so the colors that appear also more complete," he said.

He said at noon when the sun in a position perpendicular to the earth, light-bending ability to be low so that the color looks very limited.
"The color looks dark, because the view toward the sun also blocked dust, while in the morning when the air is still clean, that looks is the color red," he said.
